How I Work
As a freelancer, I can work either at your workplace — covering when you need extra proofreading or editorial help — or from my own office.
Cost
I work at an hourly rate, which I determine based on factors such as:
- turnaround time
- complexity and scope of the work
- location: your workplace or my office
After we’ve discussed your project and I’ve seen the manuscript or copy, I can provide an estimate to let you know how many hours you can expect the work to take and what the turnaround time will be.
If you have a set budget and deadline, I’d be happy to look at the project and let you know what I can offer that fits your budget and time line.
An initial 20-minute discussion about your project is free.
Because proofreading and editing applies to so many kinds of media and so many types of clients, the methods for doing the work can vary. Some of the options I offer:
- on paper: the traditional method of marking up paper with a red pen is fast and accurate, and works well for many proofreading jobs.
- in a PDF: using Adobe Acrobat editing and reviewing features, I make comments, revise copy, and point out issues to address.
- in a Microsoft Word document: copyediting is almost always done in a Word document, using the Track Changes and Comments features.
- interactive, animated, and other moving media: I usually type up notes and key them to frames or time stamps.
Web editing sometimes requires devising a customized method for making the revisions and documenting them. I’m happy to adopt the method that works for you. I also have experience creating page templates for editing web content and related metadata. If you aren’t sure how to start, contact me to discuss your project.
